Transitioning to the Future Grid in MA Event Series

9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, 600 Atlantic Ave, Boston, MA 02210

Please join us for an upcoming event in Boston on the Commonwealth’s Transition to the Future Grid! This in-person, all-day (9 am - 5 pm) event is on May 23 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

This is the second of a three-event series organized by NECEC and sponsored by MassCEC. This series explores the transition to the future grid that will follow and complement the Commonwealth’s Electric Sector Modernization Plan process. NECEC will convene stakeholders from across the MA energy ecosystem, including public and private sector leaders, communities, utilities, technology providers, entrepreneurs, and academics to hold a dialogue on how to lean on innovation and collaboration to achieve an efficient, equitable, clean grid.

The first event in March, kicked off by Secretary Tepper and MassCEC CEO Dr. Emily Reichert, convened a cross section of public and private sector leaders to introduce the series objectives and do initial brainstorming on the major transition challenges as stakeholders experience them.

Now, this second event will take the ideas and feedback from Event 1 to offer informative presentations and cultivate small group, solutions-based conversations. The event will feature remarks from Melissa Lavinson, incoming Executive Director of the MA Office of the Energy Transition, and Jamie Van Nostrand, Chair of the MA Department of Public Utilities.

The May 23 event will cover three topics:
• Incentive-based ratemaking, featuring a presentation on best practices from Cara Goldenberg, RMI
• Fostering GridTech, featuring a summary of the recent DOE Liftoff Report on Innovative Grid Deployment, a series of spotlights from grid tech providers, and a presentation on the Grid Sandbox model from Connecticut's Public Utilities Regulatory Authority
• Democratizing grid planning, featuring a presentation from National Grid, and an exploration of the role of stakeholder mapping and change management from MassCEC

A third event in September will present a proposed strategy and action items from the results of prior convenings, and position participants to continue the collaborations and pursue the ideas generated from the series.
